The Ego

I was recently asked to comment on a document regarding the ego, to which I respond:

~

I would love to reply to your request regarding the document, however to do it justice is a matter of hours of lectures.  Any brief response, I feel would be a betrayal of the subtlety, depth and breadth of the knowledge of the ego, etc.

~

Having said that, I will say the following: Contrary to what is popularly believed, the ego is not destroyed.  It is expanded… transformed to ultimately include all that is.

~

As per the Vedic tradition, one could argue that any change entails a destruction of the former, but that begs the point and I feel in this case is more misleading than enlightening.

~

Admittedly, the experience does feel at times like a destruction of the self/ego.  But again, that description said so briefly is really more misleading than helpful.

~

There may be some articles or lectures on this website or newsletter that discuss this which you would, I believe, find interesting.  If you ever come for a free lecture or a class, please do introduce yourself and feel free to ask me to talk in more depth on the subject.

Warm Wishes,

emails

I am receiving an ever-increasing numbers of emails in response to my blogs.

~

I read them all and am often moved by them.

~

They are important to me and very much appreciated. You are very important to me.  Your evolution is important to me and certainly, of course, to the whole world.

~

Even if you are one who does not travel and we never meet in the physical, I will continue to offer all I can through this website to facilitate your evolution.

Giving Thanks

One day, sitting on our front porch, I asked my wife, “Can you imagine a hostile army [either foreign or domestic] marching down this street someday?”

~

“No, I can’t,” she honestly responded.

~

Then I said, “For so long we have taken for granted what thousands have died for, that we no longer fully appreciate it.  Because of that, we risk losing it.  That’s the nature of time.  We forget.”

~

Freedom… no sovereign nation holds a more precious gift, nor a more delicate one.

~

This Thanksgiving, may we all express our humble gratitude.

~

May we once again proclaim our dedication to creating a more enlightened world.

The Road to Joy

As most of you know, I have been warning of the current financial situation for years.  Yet few understood what I was saying and most just wondered why a ‘spiritual teacher’ was talking about such things.  John Adams put it well in the quote below.

~

All the perplexities, confusion and distresses in America arise not from defects in the constitution or confederation, nor from want of honor or virtue, as much from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation. – John Adams

~

The irony is that this global crisis could be healed overnight if the world would just listen to his words and act upon them, but that is not likely to happen.  Is it?

~

How difficult it is to see a tragedy coming, reach out and warn about it, and then watch the world in synchronized step march down that road into oblivion.  How perplexing to see someone holding a gun to his foot, and in spite of all my pleading, the trigger is pulled anyway.  How completely mind boggling that after that is done, the next foot is targeted and in spite of all my pleading, the trigger is pulled again.

~

Yet we are making progress, particularly in the group consciousness of our Surya family.  I know that in time, the world will wake up.  The only question is how long it will take and how much unnecessary suffering will occur in the meantime.

~

All we can do is our best, and that is what I am doing.  The technology to heal this world on all levels (not just economically) is there.  How difficult to have that knowledge in a world so committed to the road to oblivion.  Yet we will not stop.

~

In time, the road to joy will become the main traveled path for the people of this world.

You are an Inkblot

Perception is more about projection than most can imagine.

~

Think of inkblots.  In the same inkblot, some see an angel while others see a monster.  Yet it is the same inkblot.

~

Remarkably, many inkblot world views are realities.  One such reality is Newtonian science.  It works.  Others (though out of mainstream popularity) include yin/yang theory, five-element theory, and the nine graha theory.

~

This does not imply that all world views are realities.  Some are simply incorrect, i.e. not consistent with how the world actually works.

~

Remember that humility is the flip side of wisdom.  Have a humble relationship with your perceptions.  Remembering that you live in an inkblot world can help.

~

Are you perceiving or projecting?  Is there really any difference?  In the depth of their hearts, the wise know that perception and projection are one.

~

Truth is an inkblot.

Your Life is a Song

Your life is not a machine.  It is a song.  It is a relationship with existence.  It is a viewpoint.  It is an opinion.  It comes from the heart.

~

The path you follow in life is not prescribed by facts, just as the roads you follow are not dictated by the road map.  You are free to travel upon the roads of your choosing.  However, the roadmap is a fact.  It let’s you know what roads currently exist.

~

Similarly, to be successful, your opinions must be consistent with fact, but they are not prescribed by fact.   The musical scale provides the possiblities, but the song is yours.

~

You are free.
