There are many fascinating things the old timers say about these mountains. One recently noted that the yellow jackets are building their nests in the trees instead of underground… “A sure sign that we will have a heavy winter.”
It will be interesting to see what happens.

I remember summers when I was a kid. Sun up to sun down, every day was an adventure. The air was fresh and sweet. Plants were lush. It was wonderful to be alive.
It has been a great joy this summer at Mount Soma to watch the kids. They have added a marvelous and magical dimension to our community. It is so delightful to watch them herd from the Center to the Union, to one home and the next as they stop to chat with the neighbors and friends. They are watched over, but the sense of freedom they display reminds me of my enchanted childhood days. The latest adventure is their pursuit of the mysterious enchanted white cat… an apparent stray in the neighborhood.
Energy is of course a very real thing with very real effects. Even coming home to Mount Soma from Asheville, the shift from frantic to sublime is palpable. When the physiologies are young and growing, how fortunate it is for them to be cultured in such a refined environment.
Kids seem to be particularly perceptive of the energy here,
with recent comments like, “We never want to leave this mountain.”

Sunday and Monday, August 11 and 12, 2013, all night.
The peak of the Perseid meteor shower, usually the best in the year, occurs in the middle of the day on Monday August 12, so both the night before and the night after will both be good to observe meteors.
Usually meteors are more frequent after local midnight, around 1 a.m. local daylight saving time.
The crescent moon setting before 11 p.m. won’t interfere with the meteors, which are best observed from a dark country location.

When Asked About Changing One’s Name, I Responded:
At times it can be wise to change ones name or title. However, it is more often wise for a person to change their circumstances and evolve their relationship with life. Yet those things are more challenging and more rare. A desire to change one’s name is often the expression of, and an attempted substitution for, a deeper longing to change one’s life… to change one’s circumstances and to evolve.
Karma is usually seen as something that affects a person from outside one’s self. It is often seen as something foreign, intangible, and abstract. Actually, it is usually far more accessible than that. It is easily seen from the outside. Yet from within it… within one’s self, it is difficult to see past.
One’s karma includes one’s relationship with life. The longings, convictions, and beliefs one holds are more often karmic than not (i.e. than dharmic).
Life’s greatest challenges are usually in moving past such karma. However, one’s karma convinces the individual that one’s greatest challenges are in fulfilling those longings, convictions, and beliefs dictated by one’s karma.
In other words, though the deepest longing of the dreamer is to awaken from the dream, it is the illusions of the dream that possess the dreamer. This is karma.
