“I don’t make jokes. I just watch Washington and report the facts.” Will Rogers.
To win the presidential election:
• Think primarily of 30 second sound bites.
• Do not hesitate to lie. Very few people have the time to research the facts and even those who do will not be believed if you come across better on camera than they do.
• Determine what most people want to believe and tell them that.
• Do not hesitate to tell one special interest group one thing and another something else. When confronted about the hypocrisy, say with great conviction and authority, something that makes no sense and stand by it.
• Whatever your opponent says about you, say the same about them.
• Ignore the truth and the facts. Claim anything that will get you elected.
• Go for the money… use it to buy the election.
• If someone tells you your facts are incorrect, tell them their facts are incorrect.
• Pay maximum attention to how you hold yourself and how you look on camera. That is what gets the votes. Be cool, calm, and collected. Pretend like you are in a Hollywood movie.
• Smile… it is not an election of substance… it is an election of charisma.

Depressing but so true..
That about sums it up – sadly.
As long as we do these things on even a microscopic level in our own work, social and/or family settings, I suppose we will continue to lack the discernment necessary when choosing our leaders . . . .
But as we purify ourselves and become more self aware, look out world! Here we come!
Somehow Will Rogers was able to make a career out of sharing such observations in a way that gave people a chuckle. I think it may be at least a bit comforting to note that this dysfunctional behavior has been going on for the history of government and we did at least make it through.
Can you imagine an enlightened government? An enlightened world? We can make it happen. The technology is there in the Veda. It is our to make it so.
Sadly, Jefferson also said that the people were not yet humble enough for the best system of government, and what we have left is the remains of the republic and the system of republican-democracy he helped build. Luckily, no presidential campaign has quite approached the despicable lies and tactics of the Jefferson-Adams election.
Only Washington’s speech at my friend’s restaurant saved us from another monarchy, yet the constitution also died nearly as fast as it appeared. How much more subtle and delicate must the teachings of Rishis be.
Sometimes it feels like things are such a mess in the government, how can it all be resolved? It is encouraging to know that in spite of dysfunction in the government, we have survived. And how encouraging it is to know we do have the opportunity to make a difference. Thank goodness voting isn’t the only avenue for change.
It has been said that democracy is what comes along when there is no one around who is fit to lead.
Someone sent these in:
If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed.
If you read the newspaper, you’re misinformed.”
Mark Twain
It ain’t what you don’t know that makes you a fool,
but what you think you know . . . that ain’t so!

IMHO, it has been said that “dysfunction” in government, our chosen leaders, etc is a reflection of the dysfunction in our society. If we point the finger at our leaders, our government, etc, just who exactly are we pointing at… ?
Clearly, it does seem there are few fit or willing to step up and lead today. However, when they do, we are not likely to even hear about it… Also love the Mark Twain quotes.
To exist it one thing. Yes, they do exist.
To be ‘around’ is another thing entirely.
Interesting…
