In reflecting upon the school, I realize how big it has all become.

The days when it was all about classes with Michael are long gone. It is becoming more and more about Mount Soma, the retreats, Somanath Temple, the Ashram Program, Mount Soma Campus, Mount Soma Vedic University, on and on. This is all necessary to make the vision a reality… to create an enlightened city, if you will.

With all that is planned, I foresee the day when I am but one facet of all that we offer to the world. It has clearly gotten to the place that I cannot carry it alone anymore.

As most of you know, we received a generous offer to match any donation, up to a total of ten thousand dollars, that comes in before December 27th. I understand that at this point we are only a fraction of the way there.

If you can, Mount Soma could really use your assistance. The time now is very short. The window of opportunity will be closing soon.

What ever happened to tithing? I remember when I was a child tithing was a privilege – an opportunity to give back to the very thing that sustained life – our spiritual well being. Even after leaving the church, I continue to tithe to what feeds my spiritual well-being. Isn’t that what it’s all about? I realize that the economy is in a mess and things are tight. In my opinion, this is the time that we need to pay even more attention to what really matters. Something is not right here. Let’s get with it. Ten thousand dollars should not be a problem.
Well, you can count on my donations ! I am very sorry I’ve waited to the last minute. Guess I’ve been asleep at the wheel these past months. I made my donations online to CRS – use it anyway you need.
I will be honest and say that I have struggled to accept and undestand how so few, in this group, could have an significant impact on this crazy world. But lately, it just makes sense somehow. Perhaps sensing the subtlety of very profound changes in myslef and being able to impact all levels of life from a different level somehow brought it together for me one day. If feels kinda powerful, but very simple really.
The technology works and those engines are firing. So then, one major role of support must be to simply keep the engines of these programs running and growing. There is something pure and beautiful in the simple pragmatics of sustaining the source of our spiritual edge and well being.
Re tithing…I’m afraid that went “out of fashion” with old religious practices that failed to cultivate an awareness or sense of one’s own spirituality. I suspect a disconnect between tithing or donations to support your “spiritual well being” has resulted…
Perhaps the obstacles all fall back to our complicated, if not confuuused, “relationship with money” and being able to ultimately trace that back to spiritual growth and fullfillment. This IS a major topic, so I will let it go and make one final and very simple point to my friends and fellow Californians…
We spend $55 for a toxi tank of gasoline; $50-$100 for a hair-cut; $3,000/mo for a monopoly game house; $$$$ when eating out; an obscene amount on pastic bottles of water; $$$$$ on christmas and shopping, but I won’t touch your sacred *!?*!ng Starbucks coffee cocktails; and the list goes on… Surelyyy, we can squeeze out $500 – $1,000 to support the efforts at Mount Soma and the educational programs of CRS – especially when sooo many of our friends have sacrificed so much to bring it to this point…..
My comments above were not meant to offend or lay on a guilt-trip. Just merely trying to put the energy of our finances in perspective…
