My gratitude to all those who sent their warm wishes, both written and ‘through the ethers’, this Guru Purnima day.

The Truth about Religion and Flatlining
More from Michael Mamas
"Take the time to reflect on what is said here. If you find yourself associating this material with things you have heard elsewhere, please take the time to diligently explore how they are different. This knowledge is elusive. I share it here because I have seen how much this knowledge helps people – the potential is enormous."

Jai Śiva Śaṅkara
Dear Brahmarshi,
Adoration to the Guru as Guru!
Peace Peace Peace
Many blessings!
Some of us at Mount Soma told stories of meeting our Guru. There were lots of laughs and tears. It was really sweet. We wound it down for the evening before I had a chance to tell mine. Here it is:
I read The Golden Frog in the Spring of 2006. A serendipitous story in itself is how I went about seeking and procuring the book recommended to me by a friend who had not even read it himself.
While on vacation in the Outer Banks, a bookstore in Ocracoke brought The Golden Frog in on my request. Once opened, I could not put it down. Nothing ever stirred me like this, I wanted to know more, and definitely wanted to learn to meditate.
As soon as I was back home I went to the web to learn more. I learned Surya Ram meditation and decided to try it for 3 weeks to see if I liked it. (I don’t know where the 3-week try came from). After 20-minutes I was hooked. I just felt better. I could not say exactly what I felt, but it was good.
I was good for one and sometimes two 20-minute rounds a day for the next several months. I was also reading and re-reading all the articles, and listening and re-listening to all the audios of Brahmarshi’s lectures on line. I could not get enough. After several months, I was getting two rounds in every day, even if it meant missing a meal or setting the alarm to get up early. The meditation was nourishing me on a level where I was starving. Meditation would not be missed.
I found a used copy of Angels Einstein and You on line and read it and The Golden Frog over and over. I recall powerfully deep transcendental experiences while reading AE&Y. I wondered what Mount Soma was all about, and I was even more curious about Surya Ram Classes and Meditation Retreats. Something powerful and very important was going on near Asheville, NC. I had to get there.
I finally just showed up in August of 2007 for Summer Retreat in Black Mountain. Wow, was I blown away. It was a family reunion for me, I just didn’t know the peoples’ names. With several people there was the experience of seemingly knowing each other, but we could not remember ever previously meeting. Everyone was so welcoming, supportive and interested in me and my story of showing up. It was unique at the time for someone to show up without being brought into The School by a friend, loved one or acquaintance. People thought I was gutsy for showing up, but it just felt right to me. I hadn’t done anything like this before.
I met Brahmarshi very briefly in the back of the hall before one of his early retreat talks. He was so humble and kind. He then, of course, gave a great and powerful talk. I felt like he was talking directly to me with great encouragement, inspiration, awesome Knowledge, and kick in the butt, setting me straight on a few things. He was so wise and unfathomably knowing. I knew He fully loved…everyone. Without any doubt, I knew He was my Teacher.
After the talk, I was bending down to put on my shoes, when for seemingly Know reason I lost balance and toppled over. I stood up and looked behind me to find Brahmarshi playfully grinning ear-to ear. Looking into his eyes, which were sparkling black crystals, I caught a glimpse of the entire cosmos. EVERYTHING was in Brahmarshi’s eyes.
Jai Siva Sankara!
Jai Brahmarshi Maheshananda!
Wow! What a great comment from Chick. To be honest, I’m glad you didn’t get to share the other night in the meditation hall… because we now have your fascinating story in writing. Good on you Chick! Thanks for sharing your fascinating story.
Beautiful Chick. Thank you for sharing. I remember when you first came to Black Mtn, and San Diego for class.
Family, we are, challenging our Self, but Divine. Life times of guidance.
