Over the past years, I have noticed that my appreciation of animals has deepened. It’s not that I have learned anything new, per say, about animals. It’s just that my feeling for their role, their place, in nature has grown stronger.
I’ve always known that every animal species has its role in nature, completely congruent with its seed form place within the unified field, the Veda. This is difficult to put into words because it’s not a thought, it’s a feeling. I sense it, feel it, and see it ever more clearly.
We have two concrete lions at Mount Soma. Even their presence touches me and others deeply. Of course, here at Mount Soma, we have bobcats, turkeys, various snakes, turtles, deer, and an occasional bear. It is as if they are all part of a unified whole, a divine concert that all seamlessly merges into one full and exquisite song of life.

Another one of my articles was just published on Elephant Journal. This one takes a look at the student loan debt crisis and discusses how to move past the limited thinking that got us into this predicament.

In the US, these four planets are close together and these days easily visible in the early morning eastern sky before sunrise.
Venus is brightest. Jupiter is lowest in the sky and second brightest. Mars is of course red. On October 9, Mars and Moon will be between Venus and Jupiter.
Beautiful!

An article I wrote about the presidential debates was just published on the front page of Elephant Journal! I’m honored to be a contributing author for a publication so intent on encouraging a conscious life. The article, Presidential Debates: What We Should be Asking Ourselves, asks readers some important questions about evaluating the 2016 presidential hopefuls. How do you separate substance from style? Merit from charisma? Sincerity from pandering?
I encourage you to read it, like it, comment on it, and share it. Let’s see if we can get the word out to as many voters as possible! Remember: a wise, discerning and effective leader will only be elected by wise, discerning and reflective voters.
Please help us get the most traction out of this article by:
- Going to the article, Presidential Debates: What We Should be Asking Ourselves.
- Comment! It’s very easy to comment on the article (just requires a name and email address). Once you comment, you can choose to receive updates via email when more comments are posted.

We enjoyed an incredible retreat and Guru Purnima over the past couple of weeks. The feeling here would be difficult to describe. Every day the weather felt like those summer days of childhood… clean, fresh, … magical. The group dynamic was so very fine… allowing the knowledge to go very deep during lectures and classes. During the Sarvadevata and Guru Havans, the discussions with Panditji were profound and beautiful. I tried to paraphrase them for this blog, but words on a page could just not capture the feeling, so I felt like it was not proper to even try.
Evenings were cool and beautiful. As has become my Guru Purnima middle of the night tradition, I got out of bed, walked out in the back yard and gazed at the moon… an occasional cloud floated before it… the ground, sky, trees, and buildings softly glowing in the moonlight.
The sublime feeling of deep friendship and community permeated every moment of every day. On the last day, as we left the temple after the Ganesh Puja, the tender feelings of closure of that beautiful time permeated all our hearts. Upon arriving home, I could only sit, gaze out my window, and rest quietly with the fine feelings of what we all created together.

We just filmed a YouTube video series that you can access with the link below. It is created with the modern, 30-second, sound bite mentality in mind.
Of course, there are risks involved with it (as with everything). My primary concern is that the videos are so short that they might be misunderstood and projected upon. The ‘I Get It Syndrome’ may compromise the videos.
However, I hope that they serve as inspiration for people to look deeper and listen more carefully… perhaps visit MountSoma.org, learn the Surya Ram Meditation, read some of the books we offer, visit Mount Soma, and perhaps attend classes and/or retreats.
Comments, giving a “Thumbs Up”, and Facebook/Twitter/Google+ sharing after viewing the videos would be appreciated, as that helps with our online presence. If you haven’t already, you may wish to subscribe to my YouTube Channel so that you’re notified of new videos (requires a Gmail account).
Be sure to view the video descriptions, as they have links to articles, blogs and other videos on that topic.
A new set of videos is in the works so start sharing!

So much has been happening here at Mount Soma lately!
The Student Union parking lot is now paved, as is the driveway between Hanuman Park and Sri Somesvara Temple. Mount Soma Boulevard repairs are complete.
It all looks amazing!
Next week, we will begin filming a video series specifically for the Michael Mamas YouTube channel. The YouTube videos are now just excerpts from various lectures. Finding short clips that do not require the context of the full talk is not so easy. The upcoming videos will be short, to the point, and progressive in their order. While a short segment is necessary in this 30-second, sound-bite oriented world, it does run the risk of being misunderstood. The best we can do is explain that as the series progresses, all the pieces of the puzzle will come together. Once the big picture is seen, confusion around the separate points gets resolved. Making a series that can be heard by all – atheists, religiously devout, spiritual scholars, agnostics, emotionalists, and extremists – is quite a challenge! However, I believe it can be done.
We have resumed working with the Sthapatis (Vedic architects) to refine the details for the other temples as per the Vaastu Shastras.
Planning for the TV show to be filmed in India is still in the works.
Early planning regarding the construction of a second Mount Soma Enlightened City in Africa has begun.
Some say it is not a good idea to announce things that have not yet manifested. They argue that it can lead to disappointment if those things don’t actually happen. I prefer to keep you in the loop. I think there is a good learning here. Not every seed that is planted bears fruit. This is simply the real world process of manifestation. As I have said many times, you put something out, see what comes back, and adjust accordingly. This is a major component of the mastery of life.
The ashram program has really blossomed into a solid group of people. It is truly remarkable to see their incredible rate of refinement. It is humbling, astounding, awe inspiring, and affirming… all at the same time. As their individuality shines forth, hand in hand with their unity with all that is, they stand as outstanding examples of evolution. The Mount Soma community as a whole is also inspiring. Each individual is following their own walk of life while, at the same time, enjoying the mutual support, friendship, and love of community. In this day and age with so many people on the move, the value of community in this nation seems to be eroding away… here it is on the rise.
People often feel they need to get married and have children so they are not alone in their old age. Of course, marriage and children are a beautiful thing, but when the community value is solid, no one ever needs to fear being alone.
I once visited an ashram in India where people of all ages lived. I remember in particular an elderly woman. She was so full of life, love, and contentment as she slowly moved through her daily routine. In fact, everyone there lived a life of fulfillment… acting in harmony with their own unique individual nature and stage of life… their own interests, their own song. It was very moving to witness. “This is community,” I thought to myself. I wanted to create that for the world, and now at Mount Soma it has happened.
Based upon phone calls, bookings, and the nice weather forecast, this Memorial Day weekend appears to be shaping up as the biggest weekend we have ever experienced here at Mount Soma. It should be inspiring, profound, and also a lot of fun.
Have a good Memorial Day weekend everyone!

I was asked the following question (edited slightly for completeness):
You say:
- Most of your karma is between your ears and in your heart .
- One’s chart is one’s karma.
I would like to hear how to reconcile the two. How does one get beyond each, both??
To which I respond:
Your chart is a ‘map’ of that which is mostly between your ears and in your heart. You get beyond it by doing the things I offer: Surya Ram Meditation, transgradient personal process, cultivation of discernment, and living in an environment that supports these processes, which is why I created Mount Soma.

I am not a jyotishi, but I have been told the following:
Saturn is aspecting Rohini which is the Moon’s exaltation nakshatra, so emotional times lie ahead through the summer.
Also, the effects of the lunar eclipse which occurred in April will be felt through the summer…. difficult times.
The eclipse happened with Moon in Virgo (an Earth sign) so global calamities, earthquakes, etc. are likely.
For the six months prior to the solar eclipse, things were predicted to be difficult and the rise of ISIS, etc. did occur then.
So we are going through rocky times globally, but things will be better.
~
On a positive note, jyotishi Sanjay Rath said that May 2, 2015 to May 2, 2016, should be an excellent time for Mount Soma. In fact, many good things are in the works and will likely come to fruition during that time.
